Gymbaroo is a neuro education program for children from 6 weeks to 6 years old (and their parents!). Our program has been running in Australia for 30 years.

On these web pages, you can learn more about what we do, about your child's developmental stage and about how important the various stages are to a child's formative years.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any more information or explanation, or of course if you are interested in joining one of our courses.

The best decision you'll ever make for your childs future.

Babies 2-6 months - Castle

Description:

Platypus & Goanna

As a parent you learn how to make the most of this very important stage of development. Babies learn more in the first year of life than any other time in their life so we give you lots of information on how to promote this learning to create the best foundation for later learning.

These activities offer plenty of tummy time and sensory stimulation (auditory, visual and vestibular). You will learn different massages, gentle movements and dances. You will learn how to develop your baby’s strength and flexibility.

Our BabyROO equipment is setup to provide opportunities to enjoy the feeling of being moved and to teach you some activities to do at home with your child. In precious quality time with your baby, you learn how to provide activities helping your infant to learn about themselves and their world, so that their ’computer’ brain can amass important information on which later learning is so dependent.

Our class timetable splits baby classes by age. Use your baby's age when choosing your class. The BabyROO timetable options are either Babies 2-6 months or Babies over 6 months. Generally babies under 6 months classes are occupied by non-crawling babies and are delivered the Platypus program. Our babies over 6 months classes contain babies who are not yet crawling as well as those that are so it combines the Platypus and Goanna (crawling baby) program.

Penguins & Koalas

Once your little one is walking, they can take part in our Penguins programme. There is a vast difference between the baby programme and our toddler classes.

An exciting, safe environment to experiment and explore themselves and their world is offered to one year olds. With parents there, this age group feel secure, but have the independence to try out the fun new activities, learning about their bodies and space and balance. At this age there is a lot of learning by watching.

Your child will start taking a more participative role in the class as they can start to understand simple tasks and instructions. We will also be doing exercises with slow music allowing them time to learn how to move and control their limbs. The equipment is also far more challenging – ladders to negotiate, balance beams to walk along and lots of hanging activities on the trapeze and overhead.

All in all it starts the foundation for strong gross motor and coordination skills.

Dances are sequential now, in an endeavour to help children move and think. Our songs and exercises are still quite slow to allow their new body awareness to be perfected. We introduce the ‘crocodile’ movement during the massage session due to its importance in body coordination and of course reflex inhibition.

Our classes are becoming more structured as this is also the time for children to start learning limits and to improve their concentration. The activities at GymbaROO help lay the ground work for early reading/writing, preschool and school. As their control over all muscle groups is strengthened and fine tuned, they can start concentrating on language skills.

Kangaroos 2.5 - 3 years

Now development is really bounding forward. Sessions at this age are geared for the development of sensory integration and the consequent laterality. For this reason, a preferred hand (or foot) is encouraged in all one hand (or foot) activities. Achieving laterality is very useful for things like riding a tricycle, peeling a banana and washing up. Greater concentration and desire to practice new skills of running, jumping, balancing and climbing enable our two year olds to tackle most of the equipment independently but with a parent close by.

The two and a half year olds refine play with finger plays and action songs. At mat/equipment time exciting challenges that encourage them to use right and left automatically, to pedal and swing like a monkey, are offered. We are now encouraging an increase in the comprehension of auditory memory skills from one instruction to two and likewise in the visual memory through more advanced fun activities with their parents. All areas where instructions are required are increased in complexity to allow for the development of improved auditory and visual memory, imperative for your child to reach their full potential at school.

Description:

Possums

The three year olds confidently leave their parent’s side to enjoy perceptual motor challenges integrated into our equipment time, requiring them to think and move at the same time. Cooperative games and advanced coordination skills extend this age group.

During this course, we have a different routine which is better suited to your child’s developing skills, while increasing the concentration time and the complexity and number of instructions. At this stage, they also start to learn to work in groups, to line up and to follow the leader. The sessions include counting, memory activities and visual exercises.

This age group is about making sure that the brain integration (lateralisation) is complete, that all the motor skills are available in the automatic system of the body, leaving the brain free for thinking and learning. Without these things in place, intelligent children can have trouble learning at school.

Of course, there is still the all important large equipment time where by now they love climbing ladders, jumping on trampolines and hanging upside down.

It is during this period that they are starting to consolidate all the previously learned skills and fine tuning them to enhance their early preschool experience.
